Have you ever wondered why some people who set goals, not only achieve them, but often achieve them easily?
The good news is you can achieve the exact same outcome also.
By understanding some of the simple Goal Setting Strategies, and then applying them, you too will be able to enjoy the benefits that come with setting and achieving goals.
Before we get into the Goal Setting Strategies we need to understand some of the basic principles behind goals and the part the play.
Firstly let’s look at the purpose of a Goal. For some people the purpose of a Goal is to give direction, to be a target to aim for and something to hit. Another purpose of a Goal is to get some traction, or get moving again, to create some energy and get some momentum. Sometimes the purpose of a Goal is to help a team be aligned with a common focus. Whilst these are all valuable purposes of setting a goal, the main purpose of setting a Goal and the number 1 reason and purpose of setting a goal is to ACHIEVE it.
Goal Setting Strategies enhance your ability to achieve goals so that you get to enjoy the success it brings and the positive impact. It’s only from achieving the goal that you get to really enjoy the benefits.
Tip 1 of Goal Setting Strategies – is to be absolutely clear on the Purpose of your goal. Why is achieving it important to you, and what will it enable?
Tip 2 of Goal Setting Strategies – is only set your goal if you’re 100% committed to achieving it. You need to have a mindset of “doing whatever it takes” and have an attitude to go the extra mile.
Tip 3 of Goal Setting Strategies – is to be focussed. A common mistake people make is setting too many goals all at the same time. This scatters their thoughts and scatters their energy. I recommend the less is more principle. When you have a few key goals you’re working towards you’ll have more energy for them and your results will come faster.
Tip 4 of Goal Setting Strategies – is to be disciplined. Choose the pain of discipline over the pain of regret. Stay the course and break though any obstacles with a positive mindset. Ask how can I overcome this, and What if I can?
Tip 4 of Goal Setting Strategies – is use the SMARTI rule. Specific, Measurable, Action based, Realistic, Timeframe, and Inspiring. Goals need to be well defined and specific. For example “ I want to increase my sales” is not specific enough. “I will increase my sales revenues by $5000 per month within the next 90days” is more specific. It is measurable ($5000), it will require some activity to achieve it, and it is realistic, has a timeframe of 90days and is Inspiring.
Tip 5 of Goal Setting Strategies – is to identify your obstacles and come up with a strategy to overcome each one before setting out.
Tip 6 of Goal Setting Strategies is to create your Plan. You will need to plan time each week that you will commit to working towards your Goals. Make sure your activity and your goals and in alignment.
Results = Intention x Attention.
